00400		I have friends in the environmental movement and more
00500	friends who believe ideas they have gotten from the movement,
00600	but I personally find the attitude that I take to be typical
00700	of the movement repellent and I find its goals for the country
00800	and the world threatening.  The purpose of this article is
00900	to express my views in a way that hopefully will be comprehensible
01000	to people in the movement or influenced by it.

01200		Expressing these views is made more complicated by
01300	because like any movement it is composed of people with
01400	differing attitudes and goals.  So if some of the attitudes
01500	complained about don't apply to you, ok, but I would be
01600	surprised to find many people calling themselves environmentalists
01700	who wouldn't admit to some of the attitudes.

01900		1. The simplest and most unobjectionable part
02000	of environmentalism is objection to sewage on beaches
02100	and other things that everyone objects to.  Presumably
02200	the environmentalist gives a higher priority to cleaning
02300	up the beach than the mayor who has other worries, but
02400	this is ok.  It is normal for people to differ in priorities
02500	and legitimate to urge others to share one's own.
